Message 480 - Posted: 19 Sep 2015, 11:51:40 UTC

I got up this morning at 8am (UK time) and all 3 of my computers had run out of work but were unable to upload the completed tasks. Only just now are they starting to upload their work.

This is exactly the same as yesterday but I was able to manually start the upload process then.

Today this web page and the DENIS home page were slow and sometimes did not load at all and I could not post a message until now.

Are you doing server maintenance - or is there some other reason why this is happening?

I hope that you can get this problem sorted as I don't like having my computers sit idle when they should be crunching!

If it's going to be a regular occurrence, please increase the number of work units we can download so we have enough work to keep going :o)

Same here, 3 pc's sitting idle this morning (and yesterday) and waiting to upload. Can't get any work for the third pc even now, only minimal work for first 2 pc's aswell.

Not a problem that I can see here in the U.S. My logs show that I have been uploading and downloading regularly (Win7 64-bit, BOINC 7.6.9, running four cores on an i7-4771). The DENIS homepage and forum seem to be OK also.

Consider yourself lucky Jim, I'm in the US and my machines couldn't upload for over 5 hours. The website wasn't available on the browser either.

On some sites, there are DNS problems. A few months ago, I could not get to some distributed computing site (I think it was Folding). It turned out that the DNS server supplied by my ISP couldn't reach it, and I switched over to Google. That is 8.8.8.8 (Primary) and 8.8.4.4 (Secondary), though I don't know if it works outside the U.S. (I set it up in my router Network WAN settings.)

Boincstats reported it as offline. Could not reach the site and client was running out and project was halfway uploaded on my computer. Client started to work with secondary project with very low priority.

It was all good when it came back online again.

Same here in Michigan, couldn't upload for quite a few hr's, I even aborted a lot of Wu's to ease the logjam on my network in an effort to get them to upload, needless to say that didn't work. Later in the day they slowly started to upload & things seem okay for the moment anyway ...

Hi!

We will ask to the IT Support of the university if something strange happen those days.

We hope the server it's all ok now.

Edit:
IT Staff has answer me that Saturday (in Spain) the ISP had a problem in their offices near us and we were without internet conection during most of the day.

Best regards, Joel

Is this problem back again? 2 machines ran out of work, sitting idle and loads of tasks sitting waiting to upload again today.

The problem did clear up but It's happening again.

All three of my computers had stopped and not uploaded work this morning.

I noticed yesterday that completed work was not uploading and I needed to manually spam the Update button in order to get it done.

I think it's at least partly due to the shorter work units. They get done so quickly that my computers need almost constant contact with the server.

Their servers seem a bit slow lately. Maybe it's the opt app that's causing too much traffic?
I'd reckon every WU averages about 3 minutes on my computers... I'm running 16 WUs simultaneously... that's about 5 requests per minute JUST from me.

I think so. The servers are ready for "standard" app, not for 10x computational power. Longer wus may be a solution.

Found a machine sat full of tasks waiting to upload again today, no running tasks again, spent 20 mins clicking update to get new tasks and stacks of old ones uploaded.

Worse here. Started a new thread because I've twice had the same computer sat full of tasks that are "Ready To Report" but no amount of spamming the update button would clear them. Project reset worked the first time but when I detached the project and re-added it, I'm not getting anything at all.

Still got a major problem with the number of completed tasks stored on the server. It needs limiting to the last 1,000 or less. I haven't been able to open a page to show completed tasks on 2 computers for weeks :(

Seems to me that it's time that the admins do a db purge...

Besides that the server needs to be upgraded ASAP. If money is an issue i highly suggest getting in contact with the guys over at http://www.bitcoinutopia.net/bitcoinutopia/index.php as they're willing to set up a campaign to support DENIS@Home...
