Post: The IT department is trying to open the minimum possible to let you connect but avoid any possible atack. no change linux devices that used to do work for DENIS can still not connect, nor attach to the project windows devices with old BOINC client and used to do work for DENIS can still not connect windows devices with newer BOINC client manage to connect, but very little work is given |

Post: cloudflare have very helpfully decided that "old" or "uncommon" User-Agent strings should be banished from the internet - at least by default this is impacting more than just DENIS and made the tech news a few weeks ago, not least because a change by a single large company pushes the internet to be less varied and more centralised i've never used cloudflare, so i don't know if this can be relaxed for certain URLs |

Post: my working theory is that cloudflare are blocking some User-Agent strings, that some BOINC builds on linux use, but Windows doesn't. nice and secure, eh? and then, it probably marks the IP as suspicious because of this, and the Windows hosts get a 403 |

Weird issue with "Ghost work units" on one host

Post: this is an issue with BOINC RPC protocol if certain packets get lost in transit, the server has sent the tasks to the client and records that fact, the client never got them so they don't show up, and the protocol issue is that there is no acknowledgement to cope with the data loss i believe there is a server option to resend lost tasks, but that it has been known to be awkward, so it isn't widely used the "workaround" is just to wait until the server expires them and resends the tasks |
