1) Message boards : Number crunching : Task run times (Message 2424)

Post:
Bill, I looked up your processor and the Intel shows it as 8 performance cores and 4 efficient cores for a total of 12. You could try to limit that specific computer to 8 concurrent tasks. Not all your cores are equal in processing power

Link to Intel information

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/134592/intel-core-i7-12700f-processor-25m-cache-up-to-4-90-ghz.html

Johnathan

This system as you can see is a Windows 11 box and BOINC does not at the Project level have a Core limit selection. I am untrained on Config files that might do the limit to 8 that your are suggesting... and is there a way to direct the work to the performance cores vs the others ?

Thanks
Bill

Post:
The Server Status page shows an average run time for a task at 1.14 hours. The expected time per task that I down load is showing as 52.39 minutes. Two of my systems have times that are pretty close to expected run times considering their processing power.

My system ID: 231553 has longer run times even though it may be my most powerful system. Does anyone have any suggestions on something I am missing ? My temps appear to be acceptable and fan's functional.

Thanks

*** Update a Project Reset and then a Project update does resolve the issue very painlessly.

7) Message boards : Number crunching : Stat's Export (Message 1599)
Posted 2 Apr 2022 by Profile Bill F
Post:
The Admin for BOINCStat's wants to give former DENIS users a little more time to update their DENIS profile to allow export of Stat's. If he turns on reporting now anyone that has not "allowed" export of stats to "on" during the DENIS project restart would loose their prior history and points on his BOINCstat's site.

This is another reason that it would be beneficial to post a "News" article about Stat's export. That way you have at least made the attempt.

I would suggest that a "news" item be released publicizing the Requirement of User authorization for stat's to be exported via User project profile. Many returning users will not know to go looking for something that was not there before.

The Admin of BOINCStat's posted this forum update...

2022-04-01 13:50:27 URL:https://denis.usj.es/denisathome/stats/tables.xml [6396/6396] -> "/projectXML/denis_tables.xml" [1]

Starting download of https://denis.usj.es/denisathome/stats/user.gz at 2022-04-01 13:50:27

2022-04-01 13:50:28 URL:https://denis.usj.es/denisathome/stats/user.gz [5777/5777] -> "/projectXML/denis_user_id.tmp.gz" [1]

DENIS@Home user XML took 1 seconds to download

DENIS@Home user XML too small (5777 < 60683.5).

This usually indicates a problem with the exported file, for example an empty file or a broken off export. Therefor the export is ignored. Are users removed from the project resulting in this smaller file?

I know some of the accounts were lost with the Database crash before the shutdown.

The response from Willie the Admin of BOINCStat's regarding the format of the DENIS Stat's Export.

It's a good idea to hide "Apache/2.4.41 (Ubuntu) Server at denis.usj.es Port 443" in your Apache config, it gives hackers information about your server which you don't want to share.

Otherwise the contents looks good."

IN other words, they use X86/64 CPUs.
How much RAM is allocated for the average WU?

I'm asking, because I run a rack of mobile units, with only 4GB of RAM.
They do mainly CPU work, and have 4 threads. So if each WU is ~800MB or less, they will run it just fine!

We will have to wait a little for final answers ... the current tasks are BETA test (non-science) in nature. What the actual Science based tasks will be like is not something that we should make assumptions on.

From an task that completed two days ago and failed validation (Admin has Validator issue tread going)

Peak working set size 11.09 MB
Peak swap size 6.22 MB
Peak disk usage 0.01 MB

All projects usually list all the applications and the type of computer / Android device that it uses.

What are the computer types for this project. Windows Linux Mac Android Raspberry ???

Please document somewhere on the web site.

Forget the above post. It shows on the User Account Page but NOT on the web site home page. If you are looking as a new user you cannot see what applications as you do not have an account

OK the following URL shows the Applications available and the platforms they run on.

https://denis.usj.es/denisathome/apps.php

Microsoft Windows running on an AMD x86_64 or Intel EM64T CPU
Linux running on an AMD x86_64 or Intel EM64T CPU
Intel 64-bit Mac OS 10.5 or later
