According to a recent post over at our forum which currently deals with the BOINC Pentathlon 2024, several projects can't be supported by ukrainian volunteers because Russia blocks ukrainian IPs.
Surprisingly, it was reported that Denis@home also blocks urkainian IPs. Is that correct and if so, what is the reason for this?

Is there some sort of proof or logs or something? Your post doesn't give much info to even verify the issue.

Project use cloudflare and if they have a bad route or abuse there connection they will get block from there.
With ongoing thing with RU and UKR there could be additional GEOIP blocks from on the way from router or ISP. It could be bad routed connection and got it also to sometimes to other BOINC project but it resolve it self mostly in time when network servers at universities have been restarted.

The block is probably not from university that use USR.es as a domain.

As Jonathan stated put a proof of ping and nslookup from user that experience issues.

We are not blocking any IP but I have asked to the IT department and they indicate that, for sequrity reasons, the IPs of the following countries are blocked to access to the University: Antigua and Barbuda, Albania, Bangladesh, Brazil, Belize, China, Georgia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Iraq, Kenya, North Korea, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Myanmar, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Serbia, Russia, Seychelles, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.

It's out of our control, sorry.

To clarify, from some of my computers in Ukraine i have access here and from some do not. That depends on the internet provider

I wonder what kind of security reasons this blocking solves except normal crunchers cannot participate in the project :(

If anyone would like to do some hacking there is plenty of VPNs around the world to do so

It's actually the opposite - Ukrainian ISPs started blocking ".ru" domains a long time ago, and since 01.03.2022 every AS that belongs to Russian ISPs is blocked too.

DENIS@home seems to share university's subnet, with all blocks applied.

Cloudflare can help avoid them, because it would act as a MITM proxy, masking real user IP address.

there is no connection to DENIS servers from most of Ukrainian internet providers
