Dear volunteers, After this second phase of testing and with version 7, the results are as expected. We want to review some small detail in case we can reduce the number of errors that occur in clients. Currently they are in less than 0.5% of the cases and we believe that it is mostly due to situations in the client, but if we see options for improvement, we will do it. With these results, we are ready to move on to the next phase, so we will be working on it for two or three weeks. We are preparing the experiment and working on a new version of the website, simpler but with more information about the experiments that we are going to start launching. Our intention is to set an "official" relaunch date with the new experiment, so we will let you know in the coming weeks what day it will be. Thank you very much to everyone in this beta phase, we will keep you informed as soon as possible. All the best, Jesus.

Any chance on an Android client with the relaunch or near future? |

I don't rule it out, but we don't have it in our medium-term plans. One of the ideas that I have in mind is to open the project to a bigger collaboration of the volunteers. It's still in my mind, I'm thinking how to organize various things. I think that in DENIS, as a volunteer computing project, we can move more towards other citizen science paradigms and get volunteers more involved in the project. At some point I want to talk with all you about this topic and know your opinion. This is in the medium-term plans. Maybe it will help us to include things that were not in our plans today. The reason I ask for Android is I got a number of retired devices that were crunching for Cancer on WCG (doing Universe and Einstein in the interim). Be nice to have another project to contribute to. The only other things available are math related which don't really interest me. Vodafone Australia collaborates with Garvan Institute on the Dreamlab DC app for both Android and iPhone. https://www.vodafone.com.au/foundation/dreamlab Unfortunately, the only way to see what projects they are doing is to download the app. Also, the only tracking (last I checked) is on a per device basis. Samsung does something too with a bunch of different causes you can contribute to, although I haven't checked it out and I'm not sure if it's actually actual distributed computing. I don't know where else you could look too offhand. I haven't researched any other public DC sources in a whiles. Possibly some bitcoin type oriented research organizations. You'd have to see what kind of actual reach they got. ~Yavanius |

Thanks, as a volunteer I think that a greater audience of users can be reached by inserting the possibility of processing with graphics cards whether they are Intel, Nvidia or Ati. We await the next launches of WU with cpu for now. Good job |

GPU is in our mid-term plans, but not for this problem (that is not parallelizable and can't take advantage of the GPU). We plan to include the simulation of a fiber or small tissues (now you are simulating only individual cells). And mid-term for us could be a year... Jesús Carro Universidad San Jorge @InSilicoHeart |

In the meantime we are satisfied with CPU's work. When it will come..... |

The Denis application uses scalar floating point. It is not even using the 2-way to 8-way double precision parallel capabilities of the CPUs. If you are careful about data placement, the compilers will automatically parallelize the code. |

Are you gonna restart with BOINC/Science United first and then look to other avenues? If so, do you have an anticipated date yet? |

I'd like to suggest reaching out to various educational institutions and have them share DENIS@home with relevant study students. I don't know if BOINC forums are robust enough, but have discussions about the science on a more technical level than your average BOINCer. They don't have to run BOINC to participate (they can do Science United if they just want to participate without the credit), but they will have to create an account to participate in the forum. |

Yes, it is a good idea, the only limitation would be the age of the participants. From the legal department, for data protection, they request us a condition to register as user: to be of legal age (due to the requirements that we would have to meet to allow children). I take advantage to inform you, that if there is no problem, the relaunch would be the last week of June. All the best, Jesus. Jesús Carro Universidad San Jorge @InSilicoHeart |
