Well, buying things (on a flea market or wherever) and donating (=giving for free without return) is something very different and so my logic is vice versa than yours: the main reason why I started to support DENIS, is in fact simply because it was / is a rather small, unknown and maybe therefore under supported project. If I see a project like e.g. SETI@home which is massively over supported, I have no interest in joining it, because my impression is that they already have enough. And yes: if you are here just for the credit, you are not a real cruncher to me and yes you fail the point in simply DONATING computanional power (which is the only subject to me with BOINC at all). But let us end that discussion here, because it leads to nowhere. Hopefully the servers are up soon, so we can push further :) |

But let us end that discussion here, because it leads to nowhere. Hopefully the servers are up soon, so we can push further :) I don't think so after you attacked virtually all of the BOINC community including the developers who always had Cobblestones in mind! We all crunch to help solve problems and discover things cooperatively. To that end, the more crunchers on a problem (or a project), the sooner things move along! (Your personal reasons to join a project are immaterial!) So, you are obviously by your comments AGAINST promoting wider and more participation because of your personal RIGHTEOUS OPINIONS and backward logic. I'm pretty sure MILLIONS of crunchers would NOT agree with you. It is clear the only thing you care about is being noticed as a RIGHTEOUS CRUNCHER and above all others!! We got your number... LOL! Flames off, done. |

People come here to crunch for various reasons. One people may crunch just for science on his desktop PC. After few years he will decide to leave, and in the meantime he got 1M credits for his work. Another person will join here with multiple powerful servers, in one month crunch enough WUs to get 1M credits too and then also leave. Both of them did comparable amount of work for project, one by crunching just for science and another one for points or badges. From project perspective both helped a lot and did comparable amount of work. Project owners may even like one with powerful hosts more, because he allowed them to achieve quick progress, even if only lasted for one month. Please also keep in mind that in today's world you have to offer something valuable to others in order to get something else. Some people will buy idea, other will prefer things like credits or badges. But in the end project will benefit from work done by all of them. |

Dear all, There are many motivations to contribute for this project and I think we shouldn't try to sort them on a value scale. Regardless of your motivation, the credits are very important for me because they are the small recognition we can give you for all the work you do and for how much you help us. For this reason, I'm working to recover the credit values before the database crash. The motivations of the users are many and varied (credits, badges, classification, competition, information, science, feedback, etc.). If you think there may be ways in which we can motivate volunteers better, do not hesitate to tell me. As far as possible, we will carry it out. Best regards, Jesús. I saw that you managed to restore the stats (although still a few thousand credits are missing). Thanks for taking care about that (although to me it is much more important that the results have been recovered). Now, what about the requested default integration of the optimized apps? I need to know what your plans are regarding this topic because this will ultimately determine whether or not I am continuing to support your project. Michael. Badly enough is my account not restored, I had more than 600 WU ready to sent, is there maybe still an option my account will be restored..? |

Mon crédit est perdu, mes tâches achevée ne peuvent être téléversées... Les mises à jour ne fonctionnent plus... |

Thank you for restoring my overall total, much appreciated. Pity the computer totals could not be restored as well, they no longer add up to anywhere near the overall total, but that is not important. Thanks again for your hard work getting the project back close to where it was before the crash. Conan |

Dear all, Yes, part of the credits have been restored but not all, yet. I have restored the credit to the users and the teams created before January 4th (the last backup). These users and teams are in the database with the same internal id they had before the crash. If everything works well, the value of computers will probably be restored today. To restore the credits of the users created after January 4th is more difficul. I have the credits with the cross project id and the username, but this values could change. It is also necessary for users to re-create accounts. I want to do it calmly to be sure to recover as many values as possible and to be sure that the users that re-create their accounts in the future will be able also to recover their credits. With regard to the topic of optimized applications, we cannot integrate them directly. The optimizations were done by modifying the code of the models, but we never work directly with this code. We use a tool to generate the C++ files from the CellML files: https://github.com/DENISproject/DENIS-CellML2C. We are working to introduce the optimizations in the exportation process, but this is not trivial. We have been also talking with people from a research group in Oxford that have introduced some optimizations in the exportation process of their simulator. I have pending to read some of their scientific articles. Finally, we also want to work on improving the simulator by changing the integrator we are using by a faster one. This will also greatly improve the application. Unfortunately, all this is a lot of work and we have to find the balance between improving performance and having time to be able to continue investigating. We are a very small team. Michale, I agree with all your arguments and this will be our priority for the next version, but I cannot promise you to have it in a short period of time. I hope you can understand our difficulties to carry it out fast. Thank you all very much for your understanding during these difficult days for the project. Best regards, Jesús. Confirming that I see my points have been restored. Thank you for the hard work required to recover from this unfortunate event and for the communication with us volunteers. I think that communication is extremely important when problems arise. Of course the points are nice (shiny new badges are even better) but it's not the end of the world, as long as the actual research/results were preserved. Personally I appreciate the recent level of support and will definitely continue crunching this project. Going to get that Everest badge one day! |

My points are not restored, and I am here since 2 Oct 2016. Please check this, looks that some "old" people are omitted. |

Do you know when we will get new WUs? |

Dear Daniel and MortelKni, I will check what have happened with your credits, don't worry, I hope to be able to solve it. As soon as possible I will give you more information. I'll also try to find out if there are more cases like you. Regarding the new WUs, I have them created but I don't want to send them until I'm sure that all is completely restored. I hope to start with some of them sometime next week. Best regards, Jesús. Jesús Carro Universidad San Jorge @InSilicoHeart |

Appears my ACCOUNT TOTAL credits have been restored but my INDIVIDUAL hosts totals do not match my OVERALL ACCOUNT TOTAL credit. Will this ever be fixed? |

Yes, Dr Who Fan, I'm also working on restoring the credit of the teams and the hosts, but the hosts are too much (the teams have been also restored). I prefer to be sure that the scripts are ok with the users and use them later to the hosts. Best, Jesús Jesús Carro Universidad San Jorge @InSilicoHeart |

Dear Daniel and MortelKni, Your credit is back! More users in your situation have recovered credits. Thank you very much for letting me know about the problem! Best, Jesús. Jesús Carro Universidad San Jorge @InSilicoHeart |
