1) Message boards : Number crunching : DENIS fiber simulator 1.00 (Message 3185)

Seems to check out in reality as well: my dedicated miniPC that usually takes 15-16 hours to crunch a v0.05 task is on track to finish these new ones in exactly 30 minutes.

Same here.
Up to now 80 valid wus and 0 error (on my Windows).
Well done!

20 wus pending.
My wingman, where are you??
3) Message boards : Number crunching : Pending for validation (Message 3143)

I think the explanation is that the server shows WUs as pending when both tasks have been reported and the validator is overloaded. In your case the wingman's tasks are still in progress thus the WU hasn't even reached the validator.

I was thinking the same thing
So, i'm waiting my wingman :-P

For example i have 4 wus pending, despite the server status says there is 0 wus pending...
5) Message boards : Number crunching : Server out of disk space (Message 3024)

The whole work process seems to be very cyclical, each cycle taking roughly a week:
1. Large batches of work gets generated
2. Many rigs jump to crunch whatever they can grab
3. Tens of thousands of WUs get crunched in 1-2 days
4. Validator is overloaded once crunching nears its peak
5. Server runs out of disk space
6. Task upload and reporting barely works for 1-2 days
7. Work generation is stopped
8. Validator catches up in 1-2 days (including tasks that get re-sent because of missed deadlines)
9. All WUs get crunched and validated, project runs out of work.
10. Repeat from 1.

A clear and interesting analysis

Post:
I'm thinking the server is slowly freeing up space after validating/deleting and then it allows a few more tasks to be uploaded/reported. Since there are hundreds of rigs waiting to upload and report, it takes time for everyone to get through the bottleneck. Keep requesting updates from time to time until you find an opening.

So, there is a doubt: maybe the hw of the server is undersized??
7) Message boards : Number crunching : WUs for GPUs (Message 3000)

I believe DENIS-fiber could be highly efficient on GPUs. If there's interest from the admins, I could help with porting it.

This could be another big help from you. Thank you in advance!!

But, maybe, it's better if the app will be marked as stable and not beta...

I paused the crunching, not to overload the server.
Hope that validator will restart....

10) Message boards : Number crunching : Version 0.03 (Message 2967)

Post:
I know, but since you assumed in your initial post the points are related to runtime, they should be different between linux and windows with the old app version, right?

Exactly, i assume 'cause i don't really know.
I noticed only this thing of credits/time, but maybe it's a false correlation

So I would assume there is something different which results in lower points per wu.

You're compairing the "old" app both on Linux and Windows.
I'm speaking about differences only on Windows between 0.02 and 0.03 (on the same machines).

The usage of credits may change a lot, based on projects:
- some projects use fixed credits.
- some projects (like Rosetta@home) consider the "number of simulations" per single wu.
- some projects consider the runtime.

I don't know which Denis@Home uses.

But this is a secondary question, the importance is the correct functioning of the app (and the science related)

I’ve not changed anything from the simulations code, only for the compilation.
Hope this helps!

Yes, thank you.
So the points are not related to the "dimension" of simulations, but to the runtime.

This version for Window seems very good.
On my "central" pc the runtime passes from 6300/6400 seconds to 2000/2100 seconds.

But also points seems to be reduced proportionally.
Is this version of app running smaller simulations??

If the work needs doing I do not consider it a waste. It all is part of testing things

I'm not agree.
I partecipated, in the past, to various beta boinc project (Ralph@Home, the same Denis@Home, etc), with app crash, validation errors, whatsoever and i reported it on the forums when i could... But if you cannot report wus (wrong or correct) you're doing nothing.
Are you testing the space on the server disks??
15) Message boards : Number crunching : Beta of DENIS-fiber (beta test) Windows performance (Message 2854)
Posted 14 Apr 2025 by [VENETO] boboviz
Post:
Good morning!
Finally I have been able to move the compilation of my local machine to Docker, it has cost me because I had problems with the dependencies that were really necessary for the compilation of BOINC, as it is constantly changing the requirements that are asked to compile, the previous simulator was almost obsolete, and as locally with the visual interface is always installed more, I wanted to optimize as much as possible the compilation.

Well done.
I think your hard work will paid off (in Windows environment)!!
16) Message boards : Number crunching : No WU's being sent? (Message 2837)

I just kinda gave up on it. I am not going to baby the app clicking to request work over and over again.

I solved in a different way: script with boinccmd + windows scheduler

It's frustrating.
44k wus in queue and no work to crunch

But in the server status page there are 11k wus ready to send...
