I got some of them ... running ~1H30 per WU on an i3-2100 (3.1 GHz) running 4 tasks.

hi!

We are testing beta version. If you want to test it you have to modify your preferences in the configuration page of DENIS@Home to enable your account to crunch with test applications.

We are having unexpected errors at checkpoint that we are trying to solve as soon as possible.

Best regards, Joel.

I got a bunch of them... crunching away!

Are these using any special functions like SSE4?

Hi!

By default, the version we send tries to be as much compatible as possible, that means that it shouldn't be compiled with those advantages.

We are working to generate official apps with those CPU specific advanteges on the future.

Best regards, Joel.

Just checked my computers and one of them is down to it's last 5 tasks. I then checked the server status and is seems that there is no more available work?
Can someone please let me know how long this will take to fix?

How do you check the server status? DENIS@home does not seem to offer a way to do it in the places I've seen on other BOINC projects.

They have hidden everything under drop down menus on the HOME page.

Go to the HOME page.
Drop down menu DENIS@HOME at the top right of the page.
"MOUSE OVER" the DENIS@HOME page and select the first entry "PROJECT STATUS".

I think this URL will get you there.

Hello,

We have been very occupied because of analysis the amount of data collected until now. We are doing some research with that data and it cost some time for an small team like us.

We want to develop an stable version during next two week. Meanwhile we are working on the background, we are developing a work generator that populate an entire model and upload the results to a Data Base.

We hope that before the end of this month we get all working and a continuous flow of WUs generation.

Best regards, Joel

Seems good to me. At the end of the day, the key issue is the science not the flow of WU's.

I believe the some code of it will be there, but added a lot more complex system to get more data and methods to work with.

I'm very curious how this will turn out and when it will be ready.

They really like to teasing with us with those words!
Soon they will say "end of the week". So might be after this summer?

Please Denis do have any info to hold on to the day the feeder plugs in to this world?

This was in April. It is June. I don't mean to sound petulant, it is just that I am. I do not mind delays. I do not mind slowdowns or work that is insufficient for the demands of contributors ( after all it is your project, not theirs/mine ). I am patient.

What I mind is bad information. What I mind is not being kept abreast of the current status and problems, particularly when you have already made time-based statements related to new work. Pronouncements as to upcoming time-frames and expectations have been wildly optimistic more than once and that is disheartening.

Joel, I know you and the other members of the project team are all busy people with many, many demands on your time. It's a small team with a lot of work to do. But I do feel slighted that someone can not take 15 minutes and give a quick summary of the current project status, goals, challenges, and roadblocks to your community of volunteers.

[[here you, the reader, may insert your own earthy comments (my own are a bit too spicy) requesting the project to give it up and tell us wt. is going on]]

Thank you,
g

Gibson,

Those are all good points and quite valid. But it is a small project. Something like World Community Grid for example, or Folding (they have CPU work in addition to GPU work) have much larger teams and there is always someone around for a reply or status update of some sort. You are of course aware of these yourself; you can always check back here once in a while.

Hello,

We understand you, and we are doing the things the best we can. Those days have been really busy and we have been worried about other parts of the project ( and other projects, the end of the academic year...) and we have been pass less time here.

We are creating a new way to launch a vast number of simulations. It have a big part of study in order to make it flexible. We hope that in a near date we could have it done and working.

Best regards, Joel.

You might want to include a feature I've seen on some other BOINC projects. Initially set up the list of simulations to be done in some way that takes up much less disk space than if all of them were ready to send to clients.

Then have a server program that first examines how much disk space is free and how many workunits are ready to be sent, and if the number of workunits is low but enough space is available, expand a workunit on the initial list into a ready to be sent form. Repeat until either an adequate number of workunits are ready, or until free disk space is too low. For best results, count each expanded workunit as reserving enough hard drive space to allow uploading it after it runs. It's not visible to users whether a similar server server program condenses the files uploaded after the workunits run.

Hi,

Our problem is not the disk space, we work using google drive to send the results out of the server if we need.

Our work now is related to the process of job creation. We are regarding the best way to generate an enormous quantity of workunits in an organized way.

And in the end, we are working to store certain infomation extra (markers) that we have add recently to the simulator and we have to manage and coordinate everything.

This is why you as user are not seeing so much movement in the "surface" of the project, because we are working a lot in the backend before generating new work.

Best regards, Joel.
