Message 374 - Posted: 30 Jul 2015, 21:02:50 UTC

This evening i was bored .. so i decided to check some results from users .. and unexpectedly found that a Polish user is using an optimized version of the DENIS app .. :
http://denis.usj.es/denisathome/result.php?resultid=7037486

<core_client_version>7.4.42</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<stderr_txt>
Optimized by Sesef v1.2 2015
...
</stderr_txt>
]]>

I tried to search for this app , both using the forums and google .. but the journey went unsucessful .. anybody out there know about this ?
Thanks.

I assume it is from this place/person, though it doesn't show an optimized app for DENIS...

Sesef is a great programmer with strong interrests in BOINC. He optimized a lot of apps for many projects. For many years.

If optimized app isn`t yet available (published), then most likely it`s not ready (unstable, work in progress, etc.).

Is this perhaps the results of one of those OPTIMIZED apps?

http://denis.usj.es/denisathome/workunit.php?wuid=3714787

I want it! It goes many times (almost 10 times!) faster!!!!

PS: My 2p 3.33GHz X5680 setup is Comp# 4552...

IF the app is unstable, work in progress, etc., then Sesef should be working with the project developers to test it and NOT put it into production for ONLY one team. I went to Sesef's website and saw only two optimized apps. Didn't see any mention of this project.

If the app is legitimate, then the source and compile options and platform revisions and changes should be publicly documented and/or at least submitted to the project developers for evaluation. I don't think using a BOINC project as a "test bed" for personal testing is a safe idea... in fact, I think the developers should BLOCK all data from a suspect app until verified.

Having said that, I WANT A COPY!

LOL!

User [BOINC@Poland]AiDec is not a spokesman SESEF.
Source application has been straightened to work faster processor.

Opp SESEF:
AP26 -> GPU ATI
Enigma ->CPU
Asteroids@home ->CPU and GPU ATI(not introduced for use ->too slow)
DistrRTGen ->GPU
OProject@Home ->CPU
Andoinc ->CPU
FightMalaria@Home ->CPU
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
and many others many (others which we do not praise)......... ;-)

PS
Peciak spokesman is not.

I still don't have input from the developers and I don't have a copy of the app.

Something this good should be shared to benefit the project as a whole!

Peciak, YOU and Sesef are running the optimized app now. Will you please make it available to the developers and everyone else?

YOU made some available for another project, why not for DENIS?

http://www.enigmaathome.net/forum_thread.php?id=572

The idea is to help the project after all...

No response from Peciak or Sesef?

You know there are many talented programmers out there... it's a shame they don't get the recognition they deserve... sometimes it's because their priorities are wrong, sometimes it's their attitudes...

Having said that, I participate is a LOT of BOINC medical projects because computers are a hobby for me; but more importantly because:

1) My mother and father died of cancer.
2) My sister and brother almost died of cancer.
3) My grandfather died of heart failure as did an uncle on my fathers side.
4) I am on many meds trying to stay alive a while longer and HOPE some part of BOINC research will help me and others at some point.

I'm 61 years old on a half dozen meds trying to stay employed and alive... To think that someone good at programming won't help a medical project for some reason is beyond my comprehension. I can't think of a single reason why Peciak would spout dissembling answers in a forum then go silent and someone called Sesef would make no comments at all.

There are many talented folks that DO help projects and developers on other projects. They are selfless and give of their talents freely... but it seems the Polish National Teams top programmers don't care.

I have to wonder at the mind set of such folks... do they want to be paid for their efforts? Well, I would pay! I "DO" pay every day one of my setups is running! I would pay MORE for the help of other programmers in CASH to help find cures for humanities problems...

Sigh... I don't understand it... I would myself be super happy to be smart enough to help a project succeed 10 times faster! It would swell my heart to be able to help that much!

What do you want Sesef and Peciak? Can you converse with us and be honest and say why you won't help the project fully?

Well, straight answer. Thank you. Hope it doesn't take too long.

When you make the source and compile options/platform information available to the DENIS developers, I will Paypal $100 USD to your TEAM or whomever did the work or to the charitable entity of your choice for the effort. It shouldn't take more than a month to complete seeing as how it's really almost done from the looks of it, so offer is good for a month... expires September 10, 2015 MY time.

Oh, not to put too fine a point on the offer, I will know you did well when DENIS developers acknowledge your code is valid and works and is or soon will be deployed for all to use.

I would give it to them a bit earlier to ensure they have time to test it before deadline.

I am all for faster apps, but the reason that thousands of babies in the U.S. were not deformed by thalidomide is because some FDA official refused to approve it without proper testing.

This week the university is close, we can't test it, but we are going to make all the test with it soon.

Thanks for your help in the project.

If all the test are correct, can you make it the default DENIS application ? (to be downloaded by the project, and not needing user modifications)

I second that!

Soon as it is a GO, Sesef will get $100 USD donation if that is acceptable.

PS: Hope when the SOURCE is published that we can get a Linux version going!!!

PPS: I would encourage all who can to donate a little something to Sesef for this great effort as well!

If he will set up a PayPal account, I will do my part.

I think this could be a boost to a lot of the BOINC projects, who may have good scientists but they may not be so familiar with programming. They need some expert help.
