Message 1367 - Posted: 22 Mar 2018, 10:07:41 UTC - in response to Message 1365.

Further to Conan's post and my own, the BOINC event log contains the following when the task failed:

22-Mar-2018 04:10:46 [DENIS@Home] Output file GD_jcarro_20180321164525000000_Test_1-Pueyo_APDR-conf_952.xml_0_0 for task GD_jcarro_20180321164525000000_Test_1-Pueyo_APDR-conf_952.xml_0 exceeds size limit.
22-Mar-2018 04:10:46 [DENIS@Home] File size: 216000018.000000 bytes. Limit: 200000000.000000 bytes

File sizes are dependent on the task type, for example:

  • A CLVPET_Block_Ks_95 task had a 61.97 MB _0 file (_1 was 38.42 KB)
  • Drouin_ENDO tasks had 351.58 KB _0 files (_1 were 244 bytes)
  • Drouin_EPI tasks had 1.03 MB _0 files (_1 were 244 bytes)
  • Pieske_333 tasks had 113.96 KB _0 files (_1 were 244 bytes)
  • Pieske_4000 tasks had 1.34 MB _0 files (_1 were 244 bytes)

(I use a self-compiled BOINC client which adds the file size to "Started upload" messages)

I don't get any tasks at all; neither on my Windows nor on my Linux machines.

My i7's pending Pueyo_APDR task has been cancelled on the server side.

The 61.9MB _0 file for a CLVPET_Block_Kr_15 task is currently being uploaded. It hasn't been compressed, and the size drops to 8.5MB when it is.

My Windows XP 32 bit computer fails all tasks, so have stopped that computer. However my Linux 64 bit computers have no problems with the tasks.

If you are not getting any tasks, check your settings in both your account here at the project and BOINC Manager to see if there could be a problem, also your anti-virus might be the problem.

So has my WU, but another has already been sent out so I don't know if that will validate my WU when it is returned.

In particular, check that test applications are allowed in project preferences (the only current application is "Beta version of the DENIS Myocyte software for validation").

Have you restored the project from a backup ?

Posts are missing and a WU I ran earlier (that failed) has gone missing from my task list.

Hello Jesús!

Will there always be such big files to upload (~ 55MB) or just for beta testing? Because they are giving me a very hard time due to my limited upload bandwidth... Thanks.

Hi Thomas!
No, I've been working in a new beta version to reduce the size of this files. I hope to upload the new beta this afternoon.

Best regards,
Jesús.

Lost a lot of tasks and "project aborted" the rest today?

I have canceled them a moment ago. The beta version was creating too big result files due to a bug. I'm finishing a new version that solves this problem. I was not canceled previously the tasks to give credit to all the volunteers but the results saturated the server. I hope to upload the new version today or tomorrow and I will restart sending tasks.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Well they uploaded OK, but all 233 "Validation pending" tasks immediately became "Invalid."

468 here. Suspending the work I have left so more resources aren't thrown away.

They are completely valid. Returned by two users as "Completed and validated"
https://denis.usj.es/denisathome/workunit.php?wuid=89093

My point total after being at work at day is the same before I left for work. 12 hours of nothing after 18 hours + WIP + waiting for validation a few days ago.

Well I have 270 completed W/U that have now been marked as cancelled by server.

Does this mean I have done all of these for no credit gained??

Yes, I'm sorry, it is not possible to give you the credit of these tasks. These things could happen with a beta version. The disk of the server was full so it was not possible to upload the "other-side" task to validate the ones that were in the server.

Yesterday, I uploaded a new version that solves this bug.

Nevertheless, we are looking for a system to recognize the effort that you, the beta testers, are doing. We have two ideas on mind: a special badget for beta testers and a classification of beta testers. If you have any idea we can consider it. We are open to new ideas

Best,
Jesús

If you're going to make something special for beta testers you should probably change the default settings to not accept test applications.

Beta testing comes with an inherent risk that most people are aware of and accept.

For those who don't want to take a chance you can go into your account, click on "DENIS@Home preferences" and un-check "Run test applications?"

I created my account yesterday, and "Run test applications?" was off by default.
