These days, we are preparing a paper for the Spanish Society of Biomedical Engineering Conference, to present the new features of DENIS and some initial performance tests. The idea is to later carry out a larger set of tests to see how volunteer computing can help with this type of problems, which types of simulations could benefit most from your support, and what the limitations are.

I'm curious about this, but I don't find your participation to CASEIB 2025

Was hoping this project would revive one the university year began, but this doesn't look good at all.

Another month has passed, university has started, so we're wondering whether some new work can be expected before the end of the year? All medicine/biology projects are either down or dry so it might be a good time to lure some new volunteers :)

Whoosh! 20k WU's sent out between 08:00 and 10:00 this morning. Gone very quickly.
Only one of my PCs managed to grab some.

Weird that it doesn't show up here

My bad, it does show up, I just had the wrong time setting. Congrats to anyone who got some, my rigs all missed it.

The server issues began almost 10 days ago and since then uptime has been between 80-85% pretty much every day. See here

Those were resends from missed deadlines and probably got cancelled because the original task was finished before yours.
I had to abort a couple of tasks as well yesterday/today because crunching went slower than expected and there wasn't enough time left.

Latest batch (Ks_4) just got released, computation size is 5x larger than previous batches. Runtime seems to be 5x longer as well.

Over 600 valid tasks split between Ryzen 7 and Intel Ultra (both on Win 11). Only 1 inconclusive.

The website only updates about once an hour. These tasks were all taken in a couple of minutes. I have the same settings as you and managed to get a few extra tasks with manual scheduler requests, but the last tasks dried up about 50 minutes ago (around 11:48 UTC).

Fresh batch of 2x10k tasks! Managed to grab a few hundred this time.
I checked the estimated computation size and it's almost exactly 1/30 of the v0.04/0.05 task computation sizes. Seems to check out in reality as well: my dedicated miniPC that usually takes 15-16 hours to crunch a v0.05 task is on track to finish these new ones in exactly 30 minutes.

There were the usual 2x10.000 tasks but they were all taken within an hour. I missed it too, only got about 25 of them on one laptop.

Just got a couple of tasks from a brand new application. Let's see what the team will say about it.
It seems to run very fast, similar to the old v0.03 tests. Deadline is 4 days.

I used to crunch SETI and Einstein many years ago but then completely left BOINC. Upon my return a couple of weeks ago I wanted to find projects that have a more practical use for humanity. Obviously medical projects were on top of the list and DENIS stood out because it's much smaller than the others (meaning my contribution will be a bit more than a drop in the ocean), it's ran by a European team and the research can have a very significant impact on many people's lives if major breakthroughs occur. Like many others, I too would be happy if the team had more time to keep us updated on what's going on and of course I'm eagerly waiting for publications to appear that are based on results that we crunch.

I could add that I had/have family members with cardiovascular issues but sadly these issues have become so common in most of the world that they are barely worth mentioning.

Indeed, I'm one of the hoggers too. I don't have access to sci-fi computers that crunch these long tasks in 7-8 hours so it's a long grind to get through my reserves. The exception is my dedicated miniPC that ran out of v0.04 just as v0.05 got sent. The laptops are taking much longer and they have 4 or 8 threads instead of 16.

I wouldn't think so, but I'm curiously waiting for an official update from the research team. I'm seeing similar runtimes even though before starting, BOINC estimates a bit less than for v0.04 tasks.

There was a new batch of 1000 WUs/2000 tasks, but because of its small size it pretty much disappeared instantly. I only managed to grab 16 of them on my dedicated MiniPC.

On a side note, I got a resent task for a WU in which both initial tasks came back inconclusive. Anyone else noticed such resends? Would be interesting if the team told us what causes this phenomenon.

I think the longer tasks are more efficient to manage for the research team, possibly decreasing the load on the validator and other parts of the server. Psychologically it's more pleasing to see your PC rip through hundreds of tasks a day instead of 8-12-16 but if it hinders the research...

Post:
You can suspend other tasks/projects to force BOINC to work on DENIS. There are no new tasks to get so if you abort them they will end up being resent to other users.

It's not an error, v0.04 tasks run 20-25x longer than v0.03, hence the massive increase in deadline.

Credits have increased proportionally with the runtime, the nasty part is when your wingman pulls down the final score because of bad CPU benchmarking.
