Hello everyone,

This lack of information is caused by two events that have happen at the same time. The Database crash that has cause a lot of work to restore it and create new redundancy methods.

And also a reorganization in the project. Due to private problems I have had to leave the project ( I will be connected to it as much as I can but as external helper). This caused that Jesus will have to carry with the entire project meanwhile he is teaching at University which is his priority.

This is why now the news will be released slowly than before, but I've to assure you that the project is not stopped or paused.

Best regards, Joel.

Hi!

Those improvent are in our horizont, we will look all the information you give to us, but we have other work to do on our simulator that is still in progress.

Also, is important to know that our application wants to cover as much computers as possible, it means compile with low versions of libraries etc... But in a future we will do our best to obtain a CPU optimized application and maybe a GPU application that could cover other approaches of electrophysiology.

Last but not least, thanks for the info.

Best regards, Joel.

The problem I think don't have relation to the software version. It could be related to some parameters that are calculated with the time needed for other WUs of the same project. Those WUs were smaller simulations and they could change the time exceed factor that multiply the FLOPs necessary for each task. Anyway, we have cancel new tasks and we will relaunch them after few tests.

8) Message boards : Number crunching : Optimized app (Message 1189)

Post:
We know that optimize our application is really hard, because the main operations are inside the models. So when we add a new model to the project, the optimization have to be done on each separate model.

This is why we have try to optimize the way we convert from CellML to C, we have modify few things from the code of the last optimization and we are looking different approaches to make the app faster.

Also, in the other hand, we have to develop software as much stable as possible and it can be executed also in old machines, so we have to use old versions of compilers and libraries.

In addition I will thank a lot to the people that have released their optimized versions, because we have learned a lot reading his code.

Best regards, Joel.

Hello!

we thought that those files were small to uses cpu time to compress them. But yes, it could be an improvement for the next version. We will take it into account, analyze the pros and the cons and release that improvement with new additions for the next version.

Hi!

New simulations are a bit longer. Also this new version calculates markers which could cost just a bit more.

We are working on the database and the optimization of the app is on our horizont but is not our priority. The part of the code which could be highly optimizable is the one that comes from the model, so we have to modify the tool we use to traduce CellML to C++ so there is not a trivial work.

Best regards, Joel.
PD: The code is open for everyone. If you know how to compile with a better compiler or with SSE additions you can do it! :)

Hi! It happen just with our app or with other apps?? Maybe it could be related with the preferences, maybe it leaves one core to use by other processes of the computer.

Hi!

We are storing the markers of the simulations in a NoSQL database. Meanwhile we are developing a webapp to access to the data.

We are populating one model now. In a future we can populate more, so It will be work for a lot of time.

Now we are not "using" the data. We need more markers and also this data could be useful to other scientist, so we are working on the way we share those markers.

Best regards, Joel.

Hi!

We think that is related to the compiler. The OSX compiler is based in a private compiler that comes with xcode, and windows version of the app is based on MinGW Compiler. But the code is the same for every version.

Also we can't do all the optimizations in order to maintain the compatibility.

Best regards, Joel.

Hi everyone,

As some of you have noticed, there are new WUs in the system. We are starting with a small peak of work, but the idea is to maintain a continuous flow of new WUs.

This new part of the project is related to a Database of markers of the simulations. We are populating a database with relevant values of the simulations to make to scientist easy the way to make a exploratory study of the model or avoid making all the time the same simulations.

We are working on the interface of this database and how to integrate in our website, also, we are developing a post to explain more this idea of the Database of markers.

Happy New Year!! And Happy Crunching!

I have 2 results running but they are very, very slow.

Based on the up time and the speed of my host I will need about 10 days to finish them and that is double the allowed 5 day deadline.

Admins can the deadline be made longer or should I just kill them?

Hi!

Could you send me the id of your host. It's really strange that computational cost.

Best regards, Joel.
